Why does my Nokia N93i keep turning itself off? The N93 did that too. Very frustrating.

Hey Leo, did you mention that you also had an N95? I'm seriously considering getting one, and would appreciate your thoughts.

N95 is ordered - but I don't have it yet.

Ah, well I hope you'll let us have your thoughts when you get it :)

Have you flashed it with the latest & greatest firmware? Typing *#0000# on the main screen will give you the current firmware revision

My N73 hasn't done that yet, but my Sony Ericsson S700i does it now and again.

I fried one nokia phone back in 2003 because of that problem. The design was such that the battery would slip away from the contacts so I decided to gaffer the batter in place. Fried the antenna and it's in the bottom of a drawer at home somewhere. There's only one phone that has ever done that too me though out of the 5+ nokias I've owned.

Did you charge the batter properly the first time you used the phone. Have you made sure the contacts are clean?

I had a Nokia 6210 that did this. But that was the only time. Try updating its firmware: http://europe.nokia.com/A4176089?N93i

I'm hoping that is not an issue with the N95. According to Fedex, I will be getting it today. =)

My Razr V3x has a habit of doing it to. Before that my Siemens used to do it as well. The bigger question is, given there are so many different models and companies and markets, why is the mobile phone experience generally such a negative one? Why is it so hard for phone companies to get this right?

Leo, is the N95 coming through Vox, Cingular or another Co. I'm considering buying that phone, the N93 or the 8525.

The N95 is unlocked (but I'll be using it with T-Mobile probably) - $750 from TigerDirect. (ouch)

you'd think that for 750 bucks, it would turn itself back on. LOL. here's hoping that the iPhone does not suffer from similar issues (and that it's out in June!).

Leo, Any other Sites you recommend for purchasing the N95? I'm in the process of selling my blackberry pearl, so the cost won't be so high. Just checked Tiger Direct and the wait is up to 30 days. Thanks, Ryan

I suspect that any bugs in the iPhone are going to drive people to the N95. However, that said, the final fight will be with desktop integration. It's why the iPod has kicked arse all over the place. I'm looking forward to reports about the N95, it looks amazing.

Yeah, even my old Motorola V300 reboots. Most of the time when I'm halfway through typing a long SMS message. Arrgh! Bloody firmware...

@JonnyT: I dunno... my personal take is that OTA (over-the-air) syncronization and music downloads is going to be a lot more important than desktop sync as mobile bandwidth goes up. And as far as I can tell the only thing the iPhone syncs OTA is mail, which is a start but not nearly enough

then again the reason to plug in your phone is simple - recharging the battery. These devices use a lot of power when they're working.

Sure, but plugging into a charger doesn't necessarily mean a computer is nearby -- I am using my E61 more and more as a laptop replacement, and when I am travelling I'd prefer to just bring my charger, yet still have the opportunity to stay up to date. In fact, as I am typing this I am listening to a podcast that I downloaded directly to the E61, no iTunes or other PC software involved. Anything that cuts the PC out of the loop is a good thing, as far as I am concerned. Mac users probably feel differently :-)

rjl210, looks like dynamism.com has the N95 for $749 with 5-7 days lead time. I've heard they're a reputable company. Though I've not oredered from them myself. I considering purchasing an HTC phone through them.

  • rjl210

wow, that's good to know too. - i just sold my blackberry pearl on eBay, now only if the guy would pay me. - so the nokia flagship stores ship anywhere in the country? should the new york one do the same?

    2 years, 7 months ago by rjl210

  • edwinv

You will need to call the NY store directly to make sure. I don't see why they wouldn't.

No carriers are offering the N95 over here in the US, as it uses the european UMTS (2100MHz) band, which is not available in the US -- 3G in the US is a confusing and sorry mess. So no carrier subsidies for the N95 in the US as of now. In general phones are heavily subsidised over here as well (typically free with a 24mo contract).

2 years, 7 months ago by twilsher

  • warza

free? An 18 month contract at £35 a month amounts to £600 over that amount of time. It's like renting your phone. I don't use the included minutes.
