I'm using the Blackberry so much, I'm thinking I should scrap the iPhone and get a Touch instead.

iPhone v1.1.1 has been hacked and more rumors of Apple announcing 3rd party apps on the iPhone sooner than later. May want to hold off for a little while before dumping it.

Can I have your iPhone then?

Leo what do you think about the N95 , is it still one of your favorites and how do you think it compares with the iPhone?

I don't know anyone who switches their phones and buys and many new ones as you ;)

The Touch would be much less encumbered.

If the iPhone had 3rd party apps would you still drop the iPhone all together?

I'll take the iPhone :-). But man a blackberry and touch, do you really wear a toolbelt for your gadgets

I'll buy the iPhone from you, Leo (I'm only half-joking!).

I heard Steve Jobs shed a tear when he read Leo's jaiku posting. One single, solitary tear.. (or was that Fake Steve, I get the two mixed up)

Good for you. You can't know if your phone will serve your needs until you really test it. I miss my Blackberry & Windows Mobile phones.

I have a Touch. I miss EDGE. Makes me want to build a dinky Stompbox.

What about the N95? You change phones more often than some their underwear!

I've got the N95 and the Touch - works well for me. All I need now is to have someone (or Nokia) write a "Internet Connection Sharing" app for the N95, that would allow me to share my 3G data connection with other devices (in this case the Touch!). If you want it too - write a comment here: http://blogs.s60.com/mws/2007/10/newreleaseis_coming.html

    Hopefully Nokia will listen.

    Regards, Shane.

@scrytch: Cool, I have the same combo (am replying to you right now via my iPod touch). The only reason why I want an iPhone is so I can surf when not in WiFi coverage. So, if I could share the EDGE connection from my N95, that would be just dandy.

I know at least six people in my own little microcosm that wanted an iphone at day one, but balked at the 600.00 price tag. Now, with all the falderall of hacked phones, bricked phones etc. not one of these people want one anymore. I wonder if my sample is skewed, or has all the negative publicity recently had a chilling effect on current and future iphone sales?

Thinking the same (although I still opt for the Nokia E61i instead of Blackberry), the Touch is probably all the Apple I need because the text input is the number one thing on a phone and hardware keyboards rock the sw keyboards

I had my first iPhone experience the other day.

While I love my E70, the smoothness and usability of the iPhone* made me go 'Wow!'. I haven't had that reaction to tech for years.

same here - I love the new N95 and could easily get away with the larger Touch instead of the smaller capacity iPhone.

Very cool, esp. because of what a caller on TTG show said about Wi-Fi VOIP calling on the Blackberry!!

For functionality, yes, the Blackberry wins against the iPhone.

Wow, Leo still likes the Curve after almost a week.. this is amazing.

it's amazing how many iPhone users are so ignorant about the BlackBerry and all the cool stuff it has, just because it isn't Apple.

Some might be "blind" because they drink too much of the Kool-Aid, but I think a lot of the people who use iPhones or any other Apple equipment merely want something that's dead simple to use. BlackBerrys and/or Symbian S60 phones aren't as simplified, therefore not as appealing.

  • jezlyn

I think either way (power-user or uber-simplified) is a valid choice, BTW. I tend to be more power-user, while my brother tends to be the typical Mac user who doesn't like to worry about much functionality beyond what's available out of the box.

The Curve is a great phone.... If anyone comes up with a geek utility belt let me know. I'm usually packing a Blackberry Curve, a Motorola SLVR, G5 iPod, GP2X, PSP, a OneTouch BGM.

  • decaturcomp

I wonder if you'd feel that the Touch was crippled or try to use iPhone features that aren't there any longer... It seems klugey to me to consider toting two items again.

FYI if you Google for Stompbox Networks (or the third Make issue) you'll find instructions on building your own Linux based Wifi to EDGE/EVDO/3G converter.... although... you could do it with a USB Wifi adapter that does HostAP mode and a USB modem from Sierra Wireless, hooking it up to a small Via EPIA board (PicoITX, anyone?) and using a flash card w/IDE->CF adapter. BRILLIANT!

I definitely agree with Jyri, Nokia E61i is the way to go.
