Looking at download numbers for my netcasts and apparently iTunes created a big (artificial) spike in March. Other podcasts report this too.

I'm sure your great podcasts already create big spikes anyway :P

what was the reason, Leo? i had some weird stuff going on with macbreak (video) it keeps redownloading old episodes over and over, but i haven't noticed anything like this with TWIT productions :)

I get re-downloading from some sites regularly from iTunes. I always thought it was the sites fault, but perhaps it is iTunes fault.

I've seen this too, but not specific to the TWiT netcasts. If I could only get my videos to play smoother in iTunes. Thanks for VLC.

Oh man!, it is the adoring fans downloading multiple copies of everything you do! Seriously though, I suspect this is a problem because of the need to have accurate numbers for your advertisers? Believe me, since this is the week the CompUSA store in Omaha, NE has closed for good (where I worked as an Apple Tech for 8 years), I am kind of sensitive to ones bottom line:)

My podcasts is reporting higher numbers as well. My wife downloaded it twice via iTunes, no fault of her own.

iTunes can't be the problem. It's an Apple product!

Podtrac, my ad rep, corrects for the download spikes by only counting unique downloads - which makes for much lower numbers, but they're much much more consistent.

Podtrac seems to think something about how iTunes downloads changed with v7.1.

Yeah, you'd think that with ad revenues being involved, firms like Podtrac are going to be extra specially sure that the numbers are accurate. This is the first I've heard of iTunes causing some anomaly though. Perhaps Steve Jobs sneezed sometime in March...

I've experienced problems in the last couple of weeks with iTunes 7.1 Podcasts download fine, but when I go to transfer them over to my iPod several days later, iTunes can no longer find the file and I have to download it again (sometimes through iTunes and sometimes I have to do it manually from the TWiT site). This is on Vista. Anyone else experienced something like this?
