OpenDNS says Google isn't responding: "Unable to forward this request at this time." Is OpenDNS broken or Google?

It's back now. Wonder what happened there. It sure is scary when Google doesn't work.

@CheifTWiT: When I get customer calls and they are in a panic because they can't get to Google, that's a hard panic to curb.

I've never tried Open DNS. Aside from the recent google issue, what do people think of it?

I always thought that it's one of those cool things that are completely inconsequential. Anyone disagrees ?

Does this mean, that we've reached the point, where is Google is more important to us than Microsoft?! Think about it, if Microsoft were to suddently disappear, what would happen? Those three people still using hotmail wouldn't get email and we wouldn't get any more "Service Packs". That's it!

Without Google, however, the backbone of the Internet would collapse!

    Pretty amazing isn't!!

Google had a hiccup where they returned 503 (regardless of using OpenDNS or not) for anyone certain hitting parts of their search cluster in the bay area region. It lasted for about two minutes. We could certainly have a better error message there and we will on Monday.

@tedd Actually Yahoo's search yields much better results and is much more flexible than Google. Yahoo alpha search http://tinyurl.com/3dkfsr for example transcend from search to actual content experience, like Mahalo only without reviews. And LIve/MSN still has the best interfaces http://tinyurl.com/3aj5w5 for many things.

Google search feels like Windows/Ubuntu/OsX to me. It's a place you have to go weather you like it or not.

@KCorax Good point about flexibility, but better/worse results is debatable. To me tts like crunchy or creamy peanut butter. Some swear by one and some swear by the other.

The problem, is that, as you said, Google is a place you have to go whether we want to or not.

If I can't ping Google, I assume the 'net is down aka. Cylons attacked the planet and we're all doomed... ;)

That's the point - if Google goes down, we are all doomed!! :)

I was getting the same thing. Plus, I couldn't access a couple of my sites, but I was able to access Yahoo!
