Lennie -- how do you know the student doesn't swill espresso and smoke? God knows I do both, and I barely speak enough French to get slapped...

You know Leo, I've been thinking about your move from Twitter No wait don't stop I explain myself and then I explained this to my mom, who is still learning the tech ropes, and right of the bat she was confused by the two, so you may have made the right choice for the new people, but your tech geek followers aren't bugged about it at all, however the Lawyers might be a bit confused (I'm sorry if you're a lawyer I didn't mean you, please don't sue me).

PS: I would greatly appreciate it if you added me, so I wouldn't have to find a random comment for you to see my comment.

I've just been to France and suffered for hours in the Paris airport. Good choices, Leo - but don't forget the croissants and make sure you know where your luggage is.

There was a time when the entire computer industry ran on coffee and cigarettes...

Actually they're 16 years old and were told by the adminstration of their school in France that they'd have to quit smoking before they left since it's illegal for a minor to buy cigarettes. And in California minors can be cited for smoking. Turns out he drinks café au lait, but I've been told to bring the espresso machine back to the office because we're supposed to give them an "American" experience. Yecch.

Good luck with that Leo. It was nice of you to try to give them some of the comforts of "home".

  • merwolf01

    Which American experience?

Teachers eh! gotta ruin everything...Something tells me you're a pretty good dad. BTW I know you like tea sometimes, have you tried "Billy Tea" (Aussie Brand)?

  • Anome

I thought spending more on outlandishly pretentious coffee than food was the American Experience.

@AusiMik: Forget Billy Tea, Nerada is the good stuff.

Wait, so Americans don't have expresso machines or smoke Gauloises? I suppose then that France has no McDonalds and the French language uses no such Americanisms as 'sexy' and 'jeans.' This seems absolutely ridiculous.

Speaking as someone who recently went abroad for a semester, it was very nice of you to try to bring them some type of comfort from home. Also, studying abroad is hard enough without trying to quit smoking... they have my sympathy.

Your bio has your location as "space". Here on earth we have something called a sense of humor, next time you're in the galaxy stop in and pick one up :)

Espresso, gauloises...brings back good memories of when I lived in France. I never appreciate espresso until I live in Paris for a few years.

The Italians do espresso the best, but the French have it down pretty well too. As for the smoking thing, they just introduced a smoking ban in public places here in Luxembourg, but it was half-assed and only applies during eating hours. Still, it means we can eat out comfortably again (if we didn't have a baby that is).

It's an Illy cafe - only Italian espresso for me!

Illy's good, but I'm a Lavazza man myself.

I'm with you, Leo. I had to wait a whole week for my machine to replaced after it decided to piss water all over the floor. But good as their word, the nice man from Morphy Richards arrived earlier with a shiny new one. That's service.

Illy, Lavazza... If you're really serious about your espresso, you roast your own beans... The flavor peak drops off rapidly about 3 - 7 days after roasting.

(Geeze, I'm a geek even when I'm not near a computer....)

A post from Cory Doctrow got me started on this Black Cat coffee from Intelligentsia. I found a local shop that stocks it and they reccomended this AMAZING Honduran coffee: http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/store/coffee/world/tortuga “Action-packed” only begins to describe the Tortuga experience. This is truly one of the most intriguing Central American coffees out there, dense with flavor notes that range from Concord grape to currant to tamarind. The body is huge and creamy, and the finish resolves itself confidently with some residual black cherry and spice. There is a sense of intrigue with this coffee, as if one could continue peeling back layers of flavor without ever knowing the whole story. A tremendously satisfying taste experience!

Any Pod fans out there? I love my Senseo Pod Coffeemaker

2 years, 8 months ago by krynsky

  • decaturcomp

Yeah but the coffee in those pods is marginal at best. get a pair of the little plastic ecopods that fit in the double pod holder and grind any coffee you want to an espresso grind for a decent tasting result. http://www.amazon.com/Improved-Ecopad-Refillable-Coffee-Filter/dp/B0007INM5A/ref=tagtdppop_dp/102-7020059-1216106

I have a Flavia single cup maker. I like it.

    2 years, 8 months ago by merwolf01

  • krynsky

@decaturcomp Thanks! I didn't know about that device. The high price of pods and lack of variety are two huge cons of Pod machines and it looks like that device addresses both issues. I will definitely give it a try.
