OK I did it. Recorded all my commercials for the radio show - 22 in all. Ugh.

Ah-so that was the "I don't wanna, but I hafta" thing. Sounds exhausting for a person with no broadcast experience, but we know you are an old trooper!:)
Good Job Leo.. I was listening to the Tech Guy a few minutes ago on my way to work.... I'd like pretty much the way that you are having some guests now on the Show (the episode I was listening to had Amber and Steve Gibson), good thing for the show now that it's nationally syndicated
Is there a contractual reason you have to wait a week before posting the radio show as a podcast..umm urrr netcast? It is amazing how often a one week passage of time obsoletes information:)
I generally have to do 20-40 spots every Thursday or Friday - the clients pay to have them read "live" so each one has to be different. I record them all into one big file then cut them up and upload them to a server for the station to download. I use to be a radio production director so this is not unfamiliar but akin to getting root canal all the same.
The guests are good-he can't sustain a show solely on the phone calls of random chuckleheads:) The chuckleheads do sustain some of us in other ways-like being a computer technician-except when CompUSA closes down your store and throws you out of work:)
I think the show is excellent-much more informative and very much less political-unlike another syndicated computer show that will remain nameless (Kim Kammando)...oops did I say that out loud?:)
I feel your pain. Audio production can be fun, but anytime you HAVE to do something, it tends to lower the fun factor. Also, Leo, I would pay a subscription fee or listen to ads if I could get same-day podcasts of the radio show.
I have listened to the live show twice-the problem is timing-its tough to sit down and be afixed to the stream when it is middle going on late afternoon on Saturday and Sunday CDT:)
Leo: I like that XM replays your show a few hours later. It's been nice to catch up on the show if I've been out doing things. I've also been telling other drivers about your show. Many of us work on weekends and your show is most entertaining. I'd be most interested if what your ratings on XM have been in that time slot.
No no Live4Soccer - the rule is, if you're owed a refund you apply as early as possible. If you owe Uncle Sam money, you delay it as long as possible. It's the latter in my case. I always forget to pay the quarterly estimated taxes, alas.
Ouch, failure to pay quarterlies can be very unkind. I usually have my CPA prep them ahead of time, then I send them out post marked on the 14th. That way I don't have to stress at the last minute but the Government doesn't get the money until the very last hour.
Bummer Leo...being your own boss has it's good side and it's bad side....the bad, for most that I know, are taxes...it's so TEMPTING to buy that new gadget or toy when you have cash in hand instead of setting it aside for taxes...I'm sure you have no such worries as YOU would not be tempted by gadgets and toys! HAHA! I heard about that unlocked smart phone (last MacBreak Weekly) you just bought...

man!, take two aspirin and a cold compress. I feel your pain. Thanks for taking one for the team.

Do you have to do production on those or are you just recording your bit and passing it off to someone?

No contractual reason - but I just don't want people to avoid the live show because they can listen to the podcast the same day.

I thought you were talking about not wanting to do your taxes!

How long does that normally take?

I'm doing taxes now. Ick.

Nothing like the last minute, eh? :)

Taxes, now? eesh! I hope you're getting a big return!

I will be doing taxes this weekend. I did a rough estimate and when I found out I would owe too much, I decided to wait until now. I feel your pain.

"Forget to pay"? You realize that if you didn't pay at least 90% of your previous year and you owe, you also owe a penalty? Fun fun fun.
